The Burren National Park offers visits different trails for a variety of fitness levels. One of my favourites is the Blue Trail which brings you up and around Mulloughmore. You can see the trails here;

You have two choices here. 1. Park in the village of Corofin and get the shuttle but out to the national park. 2. Take your chances that there is a parking space at the starting point of the trails. To get here, simply turn left in Kilnaboy and follow the road until you find the trail head at the crossroads.

What do I need?

Decent walking shoes, water, snacks and a camera.

Mullougmore looks like Mars or how I imagine Mars looks. From the parking point, there is at least 1km of road to walk before you go off road. This walk gives you a great view of the lake with Mulloughmore in the distance, as seen in this photo;

Mulloughmore.

You can expect the blue trail to take about 2.5 hours. A reasonable level of fitness is required as there are ascents and rocky areas to navigate. All the trails are very well signposted. I like the variety of landscape there is on this trail including lakes, turloughs, mountains, limestone pavements and hazel woodland.

Please note that there are no facilities here. Bring your litter home with you and respect local farmers and land owners.
